What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a method for producing lasting positive change through the use of trance states. Light trance is experienced as a state of relaxation and mental focus, and is a common experience. In deeper trance states, these qualities are intensified, and the client has more access to their unconscious mind. This is significant for change-work, as it is often the unconscious mind which determines the success of such endeavours.
Where barriers exist in the unconscious mind, such as a phobia that the person knows consciously to be irrational, then the fastest change occurs by dealing directly with the unconscious mind, such as through hypnotherapy.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
Hypnotherapy is contra-indicated (not to be used) for people with certain conditions, such as schizophrenia or psychosis. However, for people without such conditions, yes, hypnotherapy is safe.
Will I remain in control? Will I remember everything?
You remain aware and in control throughout. Hypnosis in itself is extremely pleasant. In the unlikely event that a client wishes to break trance, this can be done in the same way that we can shake off drowsiness.
As for memory - how much do you remember of the last deep conversation you had? Most likely you remember the main points, but the details may be fuzzy. It's similar with hypnosis.
How long does hypnotherapy take?
It depends on the amount of change-work you bring to sessions, but typically I see clients for 1-3 one-hour sessions. Straightforward cases are often dealt with in a single session.Related to hypnotherapy is BLAST, for dealing with traumas and associated phobias.
